Prime Minister Netanyahu visits  President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mrs. Netanyahu in Washington today. The Prime Minister will join the President both for a private meeting and for a working lunch this afternoon. The meeting comes as both the United States and Israel look to bring peace and stability to a Middle East that’s been ravaged by violence for far too long. Specifically, the two leaders will discuss President Trump’s recently announced plans to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to its capital city of Jerusalem. “Jerusalem is not just the heart of three great religions, but it is now also the heart of one of the most successful democracies in the world,” President Trump said in December. “This sacred city should call forth the best in humanity, lifting our sights to what it is possible.” See what Israeli and U.S. officials said about President Trump’s historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. America’s manufacturing comeback  “After just one year, under President Trump’s leadership, manufacturing in America is back,” Vice President Mike Pence told an audience at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit Hotel in Michigan on Friday. Speaking just blocks from the headquarters of some of America’s biggest car manufacturers, the Vice President explained what so many citizens in Michigan—and indeed, all over the Midwest—saw in President Trump when they supported him in 2016. “American companies have created nearly 200,000 new, good-paying manufacturing jobs, including nearly 6,000 new jobs across Michigan alone,” Vice President Pence said. The Vice President used the Motor City itself as an example of America’s comeback. “You might have heard Fiat Chrysler is giving out $2,000-tax-cuts bonuses to all of its workers,” he said. “And they’re going to move their entire production line from Mexico to Michigan.” Read more: “At this White House, that’s just what [the President] calls a good start.” National Consumer Protection Week  On March 2, President Trump proclaimed this week as National Consumer Protection Week—an important occasion to help consumers learn more about their rights in the U.S. marketplace. A few messages that President Trump wants all Americans to hear this week: “American consumers must be alert for a broad range of scams and schemes,including identity theft, cybersecurity breaches, and charity fraud, all of which . . . erode financial security.” “Depraved scammers often target the elderly. The four will meet at the South Portico before the President participates in a working lunch with Vice President Pence and Prime Minister Netanyahu. This afternoon, the President will meet with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. The Vice President will participate in a meeting with Israeli Parliamentary Opposition Leader Yitzhak Herzog and later meet with Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem. The numbers, released Thursday, show that 15 of 18 manufacturing industries indicated growth last month. ------------------------- U.S. consumer confidence rises to highest level since November 2000 - USA Today and The Associated Press According to nonprofit organization The Conference Board, American consumers today are the most confident they have been since 2000. The business research group’s index showed that a strong job market is boosting confidence as unemployment has stayed at a 17-year low. ------------------------- U.S. real disposable incomes rose in January by the most in five years due to tax cuts - Crain’s Cleveland Business and Bloomberg “Americans’ wallets fattened in January by the most in five years” because of recent tax cuts, suggesting that greater spending power may keep boosting the U.S. economy this quarter. “The reduction in taxes helped boost the saving rate to 3.2%, the highest since August, from 2.5% in December, which was the lowest since 2007.” ------------------------- White House defends ICE, Border Patrol from California attacks - The Washington Times The Trump Administration is backing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, who the mayor of Oakland, California, challenged recently by tipping off illegal immigrants of upcoming sweeps by Federal authorities. Vice President Mike Pence called federal immigration officials “heroes” at the Department of Homeland Security’s 15th anniversary event this week. ------------------------- Trump calls for 'very strong' penalties for drug dealers - The Hill While speaking at the White House’s opioids summit this week, President Trump called for America to be “very strong on penalties” given to drug dealers and pushers. The President discussed a variety of other ways to combat the crisis, as well, including potential lawsuits against unscrupulous opioid companies. ------------------------- HHS Secretary Alex Azar commits to approaching opioid epidemic as a 'medical challenge' rather than moral failing - The Washington Examiner “Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar stressed that the Trump administration views the opioid epidemic as a disease rather than a moral failing,” Kimberly Leonard reports, “and it will take that approach in its policy implementation.” Secretary Azar also highlighted the Administration’s “promotion of drug courts, which place people with addictions who have committed crimes into substance abuse treatment rather than jail.”

Re-registration procedures, including how to renew employment authorization documentation, have been published in the Federal Register and on the USCIS website. All applicants must submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. Applicants may also request an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) by submitting a completed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, when they file Form I-821, or separately at a later date. Both forms are free on USCIS’ website at uscis.gov/tps. USCIS will issue new EADs with a Sept. 30, 2019, expiration date to eligible Syrian TPS beneficiaries who timely re-register and apply for EADs. However, given the timeframes involved with processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS is automatically extending the validity of EADs with an expiration date of March 31 for 180 days, through Sept. 27. To be eligible for TPS under Syria’s current designation, individuals must have continuously resided in the United States since Aug. 1, 2016, and have been continuously physically present in the United States since Oct. 1, 2016, along with meeting the other eligibility requirements. On Jan. 31, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen announced her determination that the conditions supporting Syria’s TPS designation continue. The secretary made her decision after reviewing country conditions and consulting with appropriate U.S. government agencies. Before the 18-month extension ends, the secretary will review conditions in Syria to determine whether its TPS designation should be extended again or terminated.
