A promise kept  Three months ago, President Donald J. Trump spoke before men and women of the American Trucking Associations in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. At the time, while he had good news to report on the economy, Congress was still working to send tax cuts to his desk. “We want lower taxes, bigger paychecks, and more jobs for American truckers and for American workers,” the President said. Today, he returns to Pennsylvania—with even better news to share. Less than a month after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act became law, at least 187 companies have issued bonuses, raised their minimum wages, planned investments, or donated to charity as a result of lower taxes. Overlooked in the immigration debate  The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security released a report this week showing that 3 out of 4 individuals convicted of international terrorism-related charges between September 11, 2001, and December 31, 2016, are foreign-born individuals who entered the United States through our immigration system. Recent reports from DOJ and DHS also draw attention to an issue often lost in the immigration debate: gender-based violence. A 2011 Government Accountability Office report found that criminal aliens were convicted of 69,929 sex offenses between fiscal years 2003 and 2009. A 2014 study estimated that approximately 1,500 forced marriages occur in the U.S. every year. That same 2014 study showed there to be an average of 23 to 27 honor killings in America each year—with 90 percent of victims murdered for being “too westernized.” Numbers like these show that regardless of political affiliation, all Americans should want an immigration system that supports and defends our values. Read more about how our current immigration system jeopardizes American security. ‘Why taxes matter after all’  Apple announced yesterday a “sweeping set of moves partially tied to the recent tax bill” that will see the company pay $38 billion in taxes from overseas profits while creating 20,000 jobs in the United States, USA Today reports. “Apple is a success story that could only have happened in America, and we are proud to build on our long history of support for the U.S. economy,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. Release Date: Jan. 18, 2018 Employment Authorization for Haitians with TPS Automatically Extended Until July 21, 2018 WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that current beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under Haiti’s designation who want to maintain that status through the program’s termination date of July 22, 2019, must re-register between Jan. 18, 2018, and March 19, 2018. Re-registration procedures, including how to renew employment authorization documentation, have been published in the Federal Register and on uscis.gov/tps. All applicants must submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. Applicants may also request an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) by submitting a completed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, at the time of filing Form I-821, or separately at a later date. Both forms are free for download on USCIS’ website at uscis.gov/tps.  USCIS will issue new EADs with a July 22, 2019, expiration date to eligible Haitian TPS beneficiaries who timely re-register and apply for EADs. Given the timeframes involved with processing TPS re-registration applications, however, USCIS is automatically extending the validity of EADs that show an expiration date of Jan. 22, 2018, for 180 days through July 21, 2018. Additionally, individuals who have EADs with an expiration date of July 22, 2017, and who applied for a new EAD during the last re-registration period but have not yet received their new EADs are also covered by this automatic extension. These individuals may show their EAD indicating a July 22, 2017, expiration date and their EAD application receipt (Notice of Action, Form I-797C) that notes the application was received on or after May 24, 2017, along with this statement, to employers as proof of continued employment authorization through July 21, 2018.   On Nov. 20, 2017, former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke determined  that disaster-related conditions in Haiti, upon which the country’s original designation was based, no longer supported its designation for TPS and announced the termination of the status. The Acting Secretary made her decision to terminate TPS for Haiti after reviewing country conditions and consulting with appropriate U.S. government agencies. She also delayed the effective date of the termination for 18 months from the current expiration date of Jan. 22, 2018, to allow time for an orderly transition. Nielsen determined that the statutory conditions supporting El Salvador’s TPS designation on the basis of an environmental disaster are no longer met. Secretary Nielsen made her decision to terminate TPS for El Salvador after reviewing country conditions and consulting with appropriate U.S. government agencies. To allow time for an orderly transition, she also delayed the effective date of the termination for 18 months from the current expiration date of March 9, 2018. Store in the Midwest States. The voluntary recall, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to abundance of caution of a possible peanut allergen contamination. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The issue was discovered by Palmer Candy Team Members. During the packing process a peanut was observed stuck to the outside of the Sea Salt Caramel Heart. To date no complaints of illness or injury have been reported to Palmer Candy.
