AHEPA Regional Banquet Honors Excellence in Ohio

AHEPA Regional Banquet Honors Excellence in Ohio AHEPA held its latest in a series of Regional Banquets in Columbus, Ohio, at the Ohio Statehouse, March 17, where excellence in leadership and service were honored, announced Supreme President Carl R. Hollister.  In addition, proceeds from the banquet benefited The Ohio State University Department of Classics for the purpose of permanently endowing a chair for the department's Modern Greek Program, and the Junior Orders of AHEPA, the Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena. "We congratulate and commend our distinguished honorees, who represent the best in leadership and service to the community and who are an inspiration to us all," Supreme President Hollister said. He also thanked the banquet's host committee and anonymous sponsors for making the event a success.   The honorees were: Michael Stinziano and Doug Preisse, each received the AHEPA Friendship Award, for their dedicated an unwavering support of the Hellenic community throughout Ohio. Hon. Zack T. Space, former U.S. representative, received the AHEPA Excellence in Public Service Award, as he continues to serve the public in an exemplary manner. Past Supreme Secretary Nicholas Alexander received the AHEPA Excellence in Education Award for spearheading the development of the Modern Greek Program at The Ohio State University since 1973, and he continues to help the program grow. Christopher Brown, Ph.D., lecturer, The Ohio State University Department of Classics, received the AHEPA Excellence in Classical Studies Award for his passion for teaching the Classics; and Past Supreme President Franklin Manios received the inaugural AHEPA-Gus Maggos Excellence Award for his significant contributions to the Order of AHEPA, including its scholarship and athletics programs. The award is named in honor of the late Brother Gus Maggos, an Ahepan who left his job to sell $50 million in World War II Bonds and received recognition from President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Brother Gus J. Lazares served as Master of Ceremonies.  More than 230 persons attended the event, which included a reception in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda. The Ohio Statehouse is built in the Greek Rival style, a type of architectural design inspired by ancient Greek buildings. Three people - two women and one man - managed to swim to the island and alert authorities.  read more US supports Cyprus in its search for offshore gas ABC News  (March 16)   A senior U.S. State Department official has repeated Washington's support for Cyprus' right to carry out an offshore search for oil and gas.  Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell told reporters after talks with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday that the U.S. also wants to see a resumption of talks to reunify the ethnically divided island nation.  Mitchell's remarks come amid Turkey's strong opposition to what it calls a "unilateral" Greek Cypriot search for hydrocarbons that doesn't directly involve breakaway Turkish Cypriots.  read more    Cyprus: Eni committed to gas search despite Turkey's dissent Washington Post  (March 15)   Italian company Eni is committed to carrying on its search for gas off the east Mediterranean island of Cyprus despite Turkey's strong opposition, the Cypriot government said Thursday.  A statement said Eni is "determined to fulfill its obligations" under its contracts with Cyprus to carry out exploratory drilling in six areas off Cyprus where it has been licensed do to so.  read more  Peter G. Statement by the Prime Minister on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination:

“As Canadians, we embrace diversity as a defining aspect of our identity. Yet, over the centuries, people in Canada have not felt progress equally. Far too many have faced discrimination, often on the basis of the way they look or where they are from.

“Today, we take a hard look at the present, and recognize a reality at home that does not always live up to the values we project to the world. Racial discrimination persists in our communities, and every day denies friends and neighbours – fellow Canadians – the opportunity and justice they deserve.

“Change starts when we examine our own attitudes and beliefs, and question how they came to be. It takes daily, deliberate effort to recognize the biases we hold, especially those we are unaware of. Biases, whether out in the open or unseen, are barriers of our own making that bring us all down.

“The Government of Canada is committed to a future where all Canadians, in particular those whose identities have been historically marginalized, experience full and equal participation in society. We will continue to take steps to renew the relationship between Canada and Indigenous Peoples, based on recognition of rights, respect, cooperation, and partnership. We will work harder to emphasize the stories and contributions of all Canadians, through initiatives recognizing the International Decade for People of African Descent. And we will always stand up to racism, xenophobia, and hate in all its forms.

Prime Minister announces new Lieutenant Governor for Newfoundland and Labrador

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the appointment of Judy Foote as the next Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ms. Foote has dedicated much of her life to public service, at both the provincial and federal level. She held various ministerial roles in the provincial House of Assembly, before being elected in 2008 as a Member of Parliament, and being named as the Minister of Public Services and Procurement following the 2015 federal election.

Prior to entering politics, Ms. Foote worked as a journalist and communications director. In addition to mentoring cancer patients, she has volunteered her time over the years with several organizations, including the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

The Prime Minister thanked the outgoing Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Frank F. Fagan, for his dedication and service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Prime Minister announces new Lieutenant Governor for British Columbia

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the appointment of Janet Austin as the next Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

Ms. Austin is a remarkable community leader and advocate for social change. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA Metro Vancouver, a position she has held since 2003. Prior to joining the YWCA, she was the Executive Director of Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland and worked for BC Housing.

Ms. Austin is an active member of various local and national organizations, including the Board of Directors of Translink and the City of Vancouver’s Healthy City for All Leadership Table. During her career, she has served on numerous boards, including the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade and the Canadian Paediatric Society.

The Prime Minister thanked the outgoing Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Judith Guichon, for her numerous contributions and her work to engage communities, non-profit organizations, and businesses across the province since taking office in 2012.

Οι Ιερείς…ΕΙΝΑΙ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙ!! με την πένα της Μ.Χ.Β.

Οι Ιερείς…ΕΙΝΑΙ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙ!!  

Κάθε τρείς και λίγο,κάποιοι πενοφόροι «δημοσιογράφοι» που υπηρετούν το κουτσομπολιό και τους απασχολεί η οπτική και ψυχική ικανοποίηση κάθε κομπλεξικού λαϊκού με στόχο την άρρωστη τηλεθέαση ή άλλη..θέαση, φέρνουν στην δημοσιότητα «πικάντικες» ιστορίες ιερέων. 

Δεν θα ισχυριστώ ότι μερικές περιπτώσεις δεν είναι όντως σκανδαλώδεις. 

Αυτές,βρίσκουν θεσμικά  την τιμωρία που τους αξίζει. 

Θα ισχυριστώ όμως ότι ενοχλούμαι τα μάλα από κακίες, «ματιές στην κλειδαρότρυπα» κρεβατοκάμαρας Ιερέων που σκοπό έχουν να εξιτάρουν κάθε «θεούσο» και «θεούσα» που ξεχνούν ότι οι ιερωμένοι ΔΕΝ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΑΓΓΕΛΟΙ,αλλά ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙ με αδυναμίες ΟΠΩΣ ΟΛΟΙ ΜΑΣ.

Ποιος είναι αυτός ΣΗΜΕΡΑ που ΝΟΜΙΖΕΙ ότι μπορεί να απαιτεί από έναν άνθρωπο, έστω και Ιερέα, την πλήρη αποστέρηση της Αγάπης και της ζεστής, αληθινής, ανθρώπινης επαφής;

Μήπως να κοιτάγαμε ο καθένας το σπίτι του, τα δικά του ΕΛΑΤΤΩΜΑΤΑ, και να μην μεγαλοποιούμε παραπτώματα άλλων ΑΝΘΡΩΠΩΝ, έστω και Ιερέων;

ΡΟΔΑΚΙΝΟΠΑΡΑΓΩΓΟΣ

Με αφορμή την ανακοίνωση του Χρίστου Γιαννακάκη , Πρόεδρου Κοινοπραξίας Συνεταιρισμών Οργανώσεων Παραγωγών Ημαθίας, έκανα την ακόλουθη δήλωση:

 Απάντηση στον ανησυχούντα φίλτατο Χρίστο Γιαννακάκη

         Οκτακόσιες σαράντα λέξεις σπατάλησε ο φίλτατος Χρήστος Γιαννακάκης στη μακροσκελέστατη ανακοίνωσή του για να μας πει τι ; Αυτό που δεν μας είπε με μια και μόνη λέξη : Κοινοτική στρεμματική αποζημίωση για την απώλεια εισοδήματος των ροδακινοπαραγωγών από το ρώσικο εμπάργκο : ΓΙΟΚ !

          Μας ανέφερε για αναγνωρισμένους θεσμούς, για αρμόδιους φορείς, για θεσμικά όργανα, για συμμετοχές σε ευρωπαϊκές οργανώσεις, για στοιχεία, φακέλους, για βοήθειες στο κράτος ανεξαρτήτως κυβερνήσεων και για άλλα πολλά θέματα, χωρίς όμως να μας πει ούτε μια λέξη για την «ταμπακιέρα». Ότι δεν πρόκειται να πάρουμε εμείς οι ροδακινοπαραγωγοί ούτε ένα ευρώ κοινοτική αποζημίωση για τις ζημιές που έχουμε υποστεί από το ρωσικό εμπάργκο για εξαγωγές ευρωπαϊκών αγροτικών προϊόντων στη Ρωσία.

          Τα  έβαλε μάλιστα με τον πρώην υπουργό Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Τροφίμων, Γιώργο Καρασμάνη, λες και αυτός χειρίστηκε τους τελευταίους μήνες το ελληνικό αίτημα στις Βρυξέλλες για κοινοτικές στρεμματικές αποζημιώσεις. Ενώ πουθενά δεν είδαμε στην ανακοίνωσή του το όνομα Αποστόλου. Αλήθεια ποιος είναι σήμερα υπουργός Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Τροφίμων ; Ο Καρασμάνης ή ο Αποστόλου ; Ποιανού το αίτημα απέρριψε η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή ; Του Καρασμάνη ή του Αποστόλου ; Ποιος υποσχόταν λαγούς με πετραχήλια στους ροδακινοπαραγωγούς από το περασμένο καλοκαίρι ; Ο Καρασμάνης ή ο Αποστόλου ; Και ποιος έφαγε την «πατσαβούρα» στα μούτρα από την Κομισιόν ; Ο Καρασμάνης ή ο Αποστόλου ;

          Λαλίστατος στην ανακοίνωσή του ο φίλτατος Χρίστος Γιαννακάκης, που φαίνεται πως θίχθηκε από μια αναφορά στην ανακοίνωση του Γιώργου Καρασμάνη περί εξωθεσμικών και αναρμόδιων παραγόντων, που συνέδραμαν τον κ. Αποστόλου στο αίτημα χωρίς αντίκρισμα. Εκείνο που όμως φαίνεται πως δεν τον έθιξε είναι πως, το εν λόγω αίτημα απερρίφθη …μετ΄επαίνων.  Και ότι οι ροδακινοπαραγωγοί δεν πρόκειται να πάρουν ούτε λεπτό του ευρώ αποζημίωση.

          Καλύτερα λοιπόν θα ήταν αντί του κ. Καρασμάνη να απευθυνθεί και να αναζητήσει ευθύνες από τον κ. Αποστόλου και την κυβέρνηση ΣΥΡΙΖΑ-ΑΝΕΛ γιατί το ελληνικό αίτημα πετάχτηκε στον κάλαθο των αχρήστων. Και μαζί με αυτό να ρωτήσει τον κ. Αποστόλου γιατί δεν έχει συσταθεί ακόμα η Διεπαγγελματική Οργάνωση Ροδακίνου, όπως ο ίδιος ρητά διαβεβαίωνε από το βήμα του Φεστιβάλ Ροδάκινου το περασμένο καλοκαίρι στη Βέροια. Και γιατί ακόμα δεν έχουν μπει μπροστά τα προγράμματα για την ενίσχυση των συλλογικών δραστηριοτήτων των αγροτών.

          Καλές οι ανησυχίες για τους θεσμικούς ρόλους και τους αρμόδιους ή αναρμόδιους φορείς, αλλά πότε ο ροδακινοπαραγωγός θα πάρει τουλάχιστον ένα ευρώ για τη ζημιά που έχει υποστεί όλα αυτά τα χρόνια με το εμπάργκο. Τουλάχιστον επί Καρασμάνη 33 εκατ. ευρώ ενισχύσεις μπήκαν στην τσέπη των παραγωγών. Τώρα, αέρας κοπανιστός !

                Για μας ένας και μοναδικός υπεύθυνος ο κος Αποστόλου. Τα λάθη του εγκληματικά στη διαχείριση του φακέλου για το εμπάργκο, οι ευθύνες του βαρύτατες. Εδώ που έφθασε τα πράγματα , να κόψει το λαιμό του να βρει χρήματα και να μας αποζημιώσει από το εμπάργκο, όπως έχει δεσμευτεί κατ’ επανάληψη.

          Σε διαφορετική περίπτωση θα μας έχει απέναντί του, αυτός και η κυβέρνησή του.
