EMBARGO MONDAY FEBRUARY 6th 09.00  A.M. BRUSSELS TIME

YouthMetre: An Award for the Most Engaged Youth Region

Brussels, Belgium

The YouthMetre: a tool to empower youth in policy making launches on 14th February 2017 at 14.00, with a seminar at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels. During  the event, accompanied by the consortium of six European organisations, YouthMetre will award the best and most engaged EU regions supporting youth.

The seminar “YouthMetre: an innovative tool for e-participation of youth in policy-making across Europe” (http://youthmetre.eu/launch/) will introduce and launch  an interactive open data tool to support youth participation in European policy making. YouthMetre proposes a tool to support evidence-based decision-making by voicing and  advocating for their ideas.

The aim of the seminar is to bring together representatives of European institutions, local and regional authorities, civil society associations, experts and  young European citizens to exchange knowledge, experience and  good practices on how  best to involve youth in the decision-making process, at local, national and  European levels.

Moreover, YouthMetre will establish an award for the European regions that achieve most in supporting the needs of young people. Based on the data from  the Youth Development Index, the three regions with the best score will receive an Award  for the Most Engaged Youth
Region (http://youthmetre.eu/youthmetre/).

During  the seminar, YouthMetre will showcase e-tools that the project consortium has developed to promote youth participation at local, national and  European disregarding the social status or place of residence. The YouthMetre launch  gives youth as well as the policymakers the opportunity to discuss and  foster forward looking  youth participation and  EU youth policies between public authorities, civil society and  youth.

The seminar will be followed by a training workshop with young people from  different European countries that will take place in Brussels on Wednesday 15th and  Thursday 16th of February. If you wish to meet and  talk with some of the young people involved contact the Project coordinator, Karl Donert (kdonert@yahoo.com).
