Asbury Park Press: Fighting PTSD: After tragic deaths of Marine sons, two Monmouth County moms find a mission

Their sons died of PTSD after serving in the Iraq War. Patricia Malloy and Debby Dailey are driven to help others avoid that fate. 

At a Feb. 25 fundraiser in Hazlet, N.J., supported by AHEPA Garden State Chapter 517, Holmdel, N.J., Malloy and Dailey raised $26,000 to purchase two service dogs after learning about the AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors Program. With $30,000 needed to sponsor the purchase of two service dogs, Past Supreme Governor Christopher Diamantoukos stepped-up and donated the remaining $4,000.

Participants discuss Leadership Mission on Capitol Hill
Executive Director Basil N. Mossaidis joined American Hellenic Institute President Nick Larigakis and B'nai B'rith International CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin yesterday to share their findings from the Third International Leadership Mission to Greece, Cyprus and Israel that took place Jan. 14 to 19, 2018, with representatives of the Congressional Hellenic Israeli Alliance (CHIA) and Congressional Hellenic Caucus. CHIA and the Hellenic Caucus hosted the briefing.

Reform key to smooth Greek market return says Europe's rescue fund

Greece can expect further debt relief from its official creditors but must show it is building an efficiently-run modern economy to convince markets of its rehabilitation, the head of Europe's rescue fund said. Athens is on course to exit its 86 billion euro ($106 billion) bailout, its third since 2010, this summer without further financial assistance from official lenders and the government is keen for a"clean exit."  read more 
 
Erdogan advisor declares Turkey will defend Imia 'to the death'

Yigit Bulut, a close advisor to Turkish President chief Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a new challenge to Greece, inviting the country to test Turkey's determination.  "We challenge Greece to set foot on Imia. If that happens we will defend [the islets] to the death from the moment that Erdogan gives the order," Bulut said.   The warning came just a few hours after Bulut warned of a "strike" in the eastern Mediterranean if any attempt to explore or drill for hydrocarbons goes ahead without Ankara's approval.  read more
 
Turkish court rejects request for Greek soldiers' release 
ABC News (March 5)

A Turkish court on Monday rejected lawyers' requests for two Greek soldiers arrested in Turkey to be released from custody.  The two were arrested last week for allegedly entering a Turkish military zone and on suspicion of attempted espionage. Greece said the two soldiers - a lieutenant and a sergeant - accidentally strayed into Turkey due to bad weather during a patrol of the Greek-Turkish border.  read more 
Energean Oil & Gas Plc, Greece's only energy explorer and producer, said it signed a financing agreement with Morgan Stanley and other banks for $1.27 billion to finance development of two natural gas fields off the coast of Israel.   read more 
  
Greece's economy grows for 4th straight quarter
Market Watch (March 5)

Greece's economy expanded for a fourth straight quarter in the last three months of 2017, but at a slower pace, according to figures published Monday.  Gross domestic product increased by 0.1% in the October-to-December period, compared with an upwardly revised 0.4% growth in the third quarter, according to data from Greece's statistics service Elstat.  read more 
   
Stan Spirou Calls it a Career After 33 Years as SNHU Men's Basketball Coach

Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball head coach Stan Spirou announced Wednesday he will retire following an illustrious 33-year career that included 640 victories, eight conference championships, five Elite Eight berths and a pair of Final Four appearances.  read more
