Third, Three-Country Leadership Mission is Underway AHEPA Canadian President Christos Argiriou, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Chairman Stephen M. Greenberg, Conference of Presidents CEO Malcolm Hoenlein, AHI President Nick Larigakis, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Supreme President Carl R. Hollister, B'nai B'rith International President Gary P. Saltzman, AHI Foundation President Constantine Galanis, and B'nai B'rith International CEO Daniel S. Mariaschin. The Third International Leadership Mission - a joint 18-member delegation on a three-country mission to Greece, Cyprus and Israel - is well underway.  The mission wrapped-up its visit to Athens yesterday and has meetings today in Cyprus before it heads for Israel this evening. The mission represents the ongoing organizational cooperation between the American Hellenic and American Jewish communities and broad diaspora support for the trilateral relationship.  Vice Admiral Ioannis G. Pavlopoulos, commander-in-chief of the Hellenic Fleet, is flanked by: Chairman of the Board Aroutzidis, Canadian President Argiriou, Supreme President Hollister and Executive Director Mossiaidis. Supreme President Carl R. Hollister heads AHEPA's delegation. He is joined by: Canadian President Christos Argiriou, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Nikolas H. Aroutzidis, Supreme Governor Dr. Alfred Barich, Executive Director Basil N. Mossaidis and Consultant Andrew Kaffes.  The four participating organizations - Order of AHEPA, American Hellenic Institute, B'nai B'rith International, and Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations - will build upon two previous, groundbreaking three-country leadership missions in January 2014 and January 2016, which were widely recognized and praised as contributing to intergroup and international cooperation and friendship. "The meeting was held within the framework of the established dialogue and consultations between the two countries, directed towards strengthening the transparency and mutual trust," the ministry said, adding that the ministers agreed to take a more direct role in the talks to overcome the difference over the name.  read more    Greece at lowest risk level, says US State Department Ekathimerini  (Jan. 10)   The US State Department on Wednesday launched a new Travel Advisory Program which ranks Greece at the lowest advisory level for safety and security risk.  "Greece at the best level of the State Department's new Travel Advisory Program," U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt remarked on Twitter. "I'm looking forward to seeing even more American tourists here in Greece in the year ahead."  read more    US giant Tesla looking to establish R&D base in Greece Energy Press (Jan. 10)     US giant Tesla, specializing in electric cars, energy storage and solarpanel manufacturing, is examining the prospect of establishing an R&D center in Greece, energypress sources have informed.  The Silicon Valley company, one of the world's biggest technological firms, has been engaged in talks with Greek government officials over the past few months, the sources said. Tesla is said to be considering beginning with a modest investment.  read more     Commentary: The road ahead for Greece Ekathimerini (Jan. 10)   Οver more than a year now serving as United States ambassador, I've been deeply impressed by the resilience and spirit of the Greek people in the face of an unprecedented economic crisis. This crisis, marked by a 25 percent decline in gross domestic product and the European Union's highest unemployment rate, has lasted far longer than America's Great Depression, and its negative effects continue to reverberate throughout society in a way that few outside the country understand. Now, however, there is broad agreement in the international community, and most importantly among Greece's leaders, that Greece is on the verge of leaving this crisis behind and that 2018 will be a critical year in the recovery.  read more    Greece seizes Libya-bound ship carrying explosive materials Reuters (Jan. 10)   Greek authorities have seized a Tanzanian-flagged ship heading for Libya and carrying materials used to make explosives, the coastguard said on Wednesday.  The vessel was detected sailing near the Greek island of Crete on Saturday. Authorities found 29 containers carrying materials including ammonium nitrate, non-electric detonators and 11 empty liquefied petroleum gas tanks.  read more    Constantine Maroulis Will Again Step Into Title Roles of Jekyll & Hyde   Playbill (Jan. 10)   Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis, who starred in the 2013 Broadway revival of Jekyll & Hyde, will again step into the musical's title roles this March.  Maroulis will star in the Virginia Musical Theatre production of the Frank Wildhorn musical March 2-4 at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.  read more
