Portraits of the World: Switzerland
Opening Dec. 15
See the first of a new series of exhibitions that explores the international context of American portraiture. Portraits of the World: Switzerland features Femme en extase (Woman in Ecstasy), a painting of Italian dancer Giulia Leonard by the great Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler. On loan from the Museum of Art and History in Geneva, Hodler's painting shares the spotlight with portraits of trail-blazing American dancers from the Portrait Gallery's collection.
