AHEPA e-News! - Vol. 11 Issue 5 - Wednesday, February 1, 2017   Program Update | AHEPA Chapter Donates $2,000 to K9 for Warriors Campaign AHEPA Delphi Chapter 25, Manhattan, N.Y., donated $2,000 to AHEPA's Service Dogs for Warriors Program  Very Rev. Archimandrite Bassakyros presents his donation. , which supports K9 for Warriors.  K9 for Warriors is dedicated to providing service canines to our Warriors suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post-9/11. During the Jan. 24 presentation, Very Rev. Archimandrite Vasilios Bassakyros, a Vietnam veteran, surprised the audience by making a personal donation of $1,000 to the program.  FOR MORE INFORMATION: AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors ICYMI: Read more on K9 for Warriors (The Ahepan magazine) Secretary of State Nominee Tillerson on Cyprus: U.S. Should Support Efforts to Achieve a "Just Resolution" that is "Consistent with UN Resolutions" Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Ben Cardin Secretary of State-designate Tillerson (D-MD) submitted a series of questions for the record to Secretary of State-designate Rex Tillerson as part of Tillerson's confirmation process.  One of those questions was on the topic of U.S. bilateral relations with Cyprus, its role as a strategic partner in the eastern Mediterranean, and how will the new administration support the ongoing settlement talks. A vote on Tillerson by the full Senate is expected today. Cardin: Cyprus is a reliable strategic partner of the United States in the volatile region of the Eastern Mediterranean. How will the new U.S. Administration further develop the bilateral ties between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus, and how will it support the ongoing reunification negotiations and that a reunified federal Cyprus will be able to pursue its own independent and sovereign foreign policy, as a Member State of the European Union?  Tillerson: Strong bilateral ties with the Republic of Cyprus will help ensure future stability and prosperity in the region. A long-term solution for Cyprus is important for U.S. interests in the region. The United States should continue to support the efforts of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders to achieve a just resolution that is consistent with UN resolutions and heals the island's divisions. If confirmed, I look forward to working closely with the UN and other key actors to support a solution. AHEPA thanks Ranking Member Cardin for submitting the question and thanks Secretary of State-designate Tillerson for providing a glimpse into the administration's position on Cyprus, including the importance of achieving a long-term and "just" resolution for Cyprus and the United States' continued support for the ongoing settlement talks.  AHEPA looks forward to continuing its work with the U.S. State Department on its policy priorities in the eastern Mediterranean.
