Dear young media makers,
Welcome to this month’s EYP newsletter. It’s already been a busy start to the year with projects across Europe and further abroad.
Last month’s newsletter hit upon challenges facing journalists and, unfortunately, recent weeks have shown even greater ambivalence towards journalism - from some politicians and parts of the public. As young media makers it’s becoming increasingly important to stand up for independent journalism and challenge hurtful and inaccurate news.
Furthermore, as recent events in the US have shown, it’s also a time to stand united against any forces which seek to discriminate and divide.
Turning to EYP matters, the next month will see the start of the Youthmetre e-tool which is aimed at providing a link between young people and decision makers in Europe. Thank you to everyone who’s helped in this project and we’d appreciate feedback from anyone using the app.
Thank you also to everyone who got in touch following our last newsletter - these included some exciting projects and we look forward to working with you all in the near future.
We are happy to support an initiative by EU Interns for Interns which seeks to promote fair internships. We at EYP rely on interns and volunteers in our work and support the improving access to funding to provide fair, quality internships to young people. As the next generation of journalists, it’s crucial that as many young people as possible have access to relevant experience to hold the powerful to account.
Thanks again for taking the time to read this newsletter, and we wish you the best for the weeks ahead.
